There are no single cause of this menace .Some are discussed as below. Children with family history of depression are more likely to get depressed as depression transmits genetically .Besides this other mental conditions increase child’s vulnerability to develop depression. Another reason is less secretion of some hormones like serotonin and dopamine so hormones imbalances are also responsible for depression in children. Some type of mental trauma can also trigger depression like loss of loved one, separation of parents etc. Besides this lack of love from parents or other elder ones also push them into depression. When they are not receiving attention or importance from peer group they feel depressed. Sometimes children are oversensitive so they develop depression when they are suffered from chronic illness or some other health ailments. Excessive academic expectations, performance anxiety, and the pressure to excel can contribute to stress and feelings of inadequacy in children.
